Choosing The Appropriate Underarm Hair Removal Method
Underarm hair removal is one of the most popular treatments, particularly among women. Underarm hair often
begins growing during puberty. Though, the growth of the underarm hair differs from one individual to the next.
Women are more worried about body hair and think about underarm hair removal compared to men. However, there are
more men these days who use various methods of hair elimination for reasons that range from aesthetic appearance to
simply wanting to feel cleaner.
Shaving
Some individuals may not want to shave but opt to do it anyway because it is faster, more convenient (can be
easily done at home), and economical. There are reasons why shaving is not for everyone. If done properly, shaving
can produce satisfying results, with smoother skin minus the cuts, nicks and bumps. However, if done improperly,
there is a higher risk of getting a rash, some cuts, a very rough texture and even worse, ingrown hairs and
infection.
Razors that may be used to shave armpit hair include regular, wet razors and electric shavers. Regardless of
what you decide to use, the razor itself must be sharp and new or in good condition. A blunt razor means you will
have to glide it over the skin repetitively, making the skin prone to a range of problems. To shave armpit hair
appropriately, prepare the skin by taking a warm shower and exfoliating before hand – this will make the underarm
softer, smoother and therefore easier to shave. Pat dry and begin shaving against the hair growth. Your final step
is to apply a thin layer of cream or lotion to moisturize and sooth the area.
Depilatories
Depilatories are basically certain creams or lotions that contain chemicals that react with the protein
structure of hair and eventually melt away the hair. Using depilatories are great ways to get rid of unwanted hair
because hair regrowth will not feel thick and rough compared to shaving. What you do need to watch out in this case
is sensitivity. If you have very sensitive skin, it's best not to use depilatories at all. If you're unsure of your
skin type, do a patch test first.
Laser Hair Removal Treatments
Laser treatments work by damaging the hair follicle, therefore thwarting the regrowth of hair. This is probably
one of the most effective and permanent ways of eliminating hair. Still, you'd want to take the appropriate steps
to make sure you get the best results. Always consult your doctor beforehand and follow all the pretreatment and
post-treatment instructions. Generally, the best candidates for laser hair treatments are those with darker,
thicker hair and lighter skin. Skin tests should always be thoroughly conducted beforehand.
Electrolysis
Electrolysis involves very tiny amounts of electrical current that is sent to each individual hair. This
treatment literally zaps hair so that it doesn't grow back. Electrolysis is used not just for underarm hair
elimination but for general body hair removal because it can be done on most skin and hair types. The only catch is
that it can cost a lot more. Just like working around a simple bikini, leg or back hair removal cost, carefully
work around your budget when it comes to laser treatments or electrolysis.
